The Chicago Police Department has recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Lake Michigan at Foster Avenue Beach Thursday morning, officials said.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene.
There is no confirmation of whether this is the 19-year-old woman who reportedly went missing in the lake Wednesday night. The recovered body was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification Thursday morning, police said.
Chicago Police and the Chicago Fire Department Dive Team were called to Foster Avenue Beach at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, with a witness telling officers the woman was struggling to swim to shore before going underwater.
The dive team suspended the search late Wednesday. The Chicago Police Department Marine Unit was on scene Thursday at 9 a.m. to resume the search.
Chicago lakefront beaches are open daily for swimming 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. while lifeguards are on duty.
Two people have drowned within the last week off the Lake Michigan shoreline in Northwest Indiana.
This is a developing story.
