Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker this week urged former lobbyist Mike McClain, a confidant of Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, to cooperate with a federal investigation sparked bya recently surfaced 2012 email referencing a “rape in Champaign.”

Pritzker requested the resignation of Director of Agriculture John Sullivan after learning that Sullivan, a former state senator, was aware of the email and did not report it to authorities.

Meanwhile, state and city politicians are using campaign funds to pay big legal fees. It’s entirely legal, but is it moral?

At a Chicago City Council meeting Wednesday, Mayor Lori Lightfoot criticized some aldermen for questions she deemed discriminatory while discussing a potential study of whether LGBTQ-owned businesses in Chicago face discrimination. And aldermen proposeda ban on single-use plastics and Styrofoam containers in an effort to cut down on plastic pollution.

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle pushed for more control of the county’s health system and passed a 3% tax on recreational marijuana sold in Cook County.

And the Chicago Tribune offers voluntary buyouts while WGN America has plans for a prime-time newscast to rival national networks like CNN and FOX.
