Remembering Former US Sen. Adlai Stevenson III
Remembering Former US Sen. Adlai Stevenson III-September 2024
Sep 16, 2024 9:20 PM

Video: Adlai Stevenson III appears on “Chicago Tonight” in 2009 with Carol Marin.

Politics was in his blood.

His great grandfather, Adlai Stevenson I, was vice president of the United States from 1893 to 1897. His father, Adlai Stevenson II, served as Illinois governor, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and a two-time Democratic nominee for president.

Adlai Stevenson III, who died Monday at the age of 90, served as a U.S. senator from 1970 to 1981. He twice lost to Jim Thompson in races for Illinois governor.

In 2009, Stevenson spoke with Carol Marin on “Chicago Tonight.” Even though he was a self-proclaimed “reformer,” he still found virtues in the old party machinery.

You can watch that interview above.
