Anne Hathaway is set to star in Amazon MGM Studios feature adaptation of Colleen Hoovers thriller novel Verity.
Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) is directing the film that is planned for a theatrical release. Nick Antosca wrote the current script following the previous work of scribes Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna and the team of Will Honley and April Maguire.
Verity centers on struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete the remaining books in a series penned by his wife, author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who has suffered a mysterious accident. Lowen soon learns that a secret unfinished manuscript may reveal clues about the familys past. Serving as producers are Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Executive producing is Heartbones Entertainments Lauren Levine.
Hoovers works are hot properties in Hollywood following the success of this summers Sony hit It Ends With Us, which adapted the authors novel with stars Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Sklenar. Hoover self-published Verity in 2018 before Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021, and the book went on to become a New York Times bestseller.
The Hollywood Reporter previously broke the news about the planned adaptation for Verity. Another Hoover book, Regretting You, has an indie adaptation in the works with stars Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames.
Showalter previously directed Hathaway in this years Amazon MGM Studios feature The Idea of You, which co-starred Nicholas Galitzine and adapted Robinne Lees novel of the same name. Showalters banner, Semi-Formal Productions, has a first-look deal with the studio.
Hathaways forthcoming projects include David LowerysMother Mary, sci-fi titleFlowervale Street and a third installment in the Princess Diaries franchise.
Showalter is represented by UTA, Artists First, Goodman Genow and 42West.
