Six people were killed and more than 20 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Presidents Day holiday weekend.
According to the Chicago Police Department, 29 people were shot in 26 separate shooting incidents between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday.
Just before 6:30 p.m. Friday evening, a 33-year-old man was shot in the head inside a residence in the 9300 block of South Harper Avenue. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he later died.
At around 9:45 p.m. Friday, a 27-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 8400 block of South Ingleside Avenue when an unknown man approached on foot and fired shots. The victim was struck in the chest and died.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the head and killed just after 9 p.m. Saturday night in the 5400 block of West Walton Street. The victim was known to police.
Darnell Hardy, 26, was shot in the chest and killed inside a home in the 12000 block of South Princeton Avenue at around 3:50 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim’s younger brother, 25-year-old Daron Hardy, has since been arrested and charged in the killing. He was denied bail during a court hearing Monday.
A 28-year-old man was shot and killed just after 6 p.m. Sunday in the 5400 block of South Honore Street. The victim was sitting in a vehicle when three people approached and demanded his personal property, before shooting him in the head. He was pronounced dead on scene.
