Oz is officially coming to Las Vegas later this summer.
Sphere Entertainment, the company behind the Las Vegas Sphere, says that it will launch a fully immersive version of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz beginning in August.
The company says it worked with Warner Bros. Discovery; Google; and Magnopus to develop a version of The Wizard of Oz that will maintain the integrity of the original while pushing the boundaries of Spheres experiential medium.
And the companys Sphere Studios division also says that it is developing a new documentary project called From the Edge, directed by Free Solo Academy Award winners E.Chai VasarhelyiandJimmy Chin. From the Edge will follow five extreme athletes: free diver Alenka Artnik, skierMarkus Eder, rock climberAlex Honnold, BASE jumperKatie Hansen Lajeunesse, and surferKai Lenny, using proprietary camera technology. From the Edge will debut in 2026.
Both The Wizard of Oz and From the Edge are part of Sphere Entertainments strategy to program original entertainment outside of its concerts and live events. When Sphere launched in 2023, it did so with one original project from Sphere Studios: Darren Aronofskys Postcard From Earth.
Our goal for The Sphere Experience is a diverse slate that leverages Spheres power as an experiential medium, Sphere CEO Jim Dolan said in a statement. The Wizard of Oz at SphereandFrom The Edgewill push that vision forward in different ways.
