Two women acting as ride-hailing service drivers have reportedly robbed multiple riders at gunpoint across the Near North Side in recent months.

Chicago police believe these women are responsible for a half-dozen robberies in River North and Lincoln Park dating back to late June.

According to a community police alert published Monday, the two offenders have picked up their victims in a vehicle, which police believe is part of a ride-hailing service such as Lyft or Uber, and then robbed them by force or at gunpoint.

The robberies have been reported on North Larrabee, North Franklin, North Dearborn and North Dayton streets. Two other incidents have been reported on the same block of West Hubbard Street.

Authorities say the suspects are two African-American women between the ages of 20 and 30. They’re described as being between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9, and 120 to 150 pounds.

Chicago police late last week also warned cab and ride-hailing drivers about a series of robberies this month in the Old Town neighborhood. In those incidents, two to three men approached the drivers and demanded cash, phones or other personal items.

Earlier this month, authorities also sought to identify a similar robbery crew operating in River North. Two men and two women reportedly robbed a victim who had gotten into the wrong ride-hailing vehicle outside a bar on West Ontario Street in the early morning hours of July 27.
