R&B superstar R. Kelly is facing nearly a dozen new criminal charges, three months after he was initially hit with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly assaulting multiple women between the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Thursday filed 11 new, serious charges against Robert Kelly, including four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 52-year-old singer turned himself in to Chicago police in February after he was charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse against four victims, three of whom were minors were the alleged crimes were committed.

Kelly pleaded not guilty to the initial charges in February.

The initial charges filed in February – aggravated criminal sexual abuse – are Class 2 felonies punishable by probation or up to seven years in prison. The latest charges are Class X, which carry a six-year minimum sentence and up to 30 years per count.

Spokespersons for the state’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon. Nor did Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg.

But Greenberg said in a tweet that the charges are not related to a new case or victim, rather Kelly was re-charged on an existing case.

#RKelly was NOT charged with a new case. He was recharged in an existing case, same alleged victim and time (a decade ago) It changes nothing

The new charges apparently pertain to a single victim, identified in the court filing by the initials “J.P.” It isn’t clear if she is the same person as one of the initial four accusers who also was identified by the same initials in court documents.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
