Jeff T. Daniel Named President of Broadway’s Largest Theater Owner, The Shubert Organization-April 2024
Apr 24, 2025 4:24 PM

Jeff T. Daniel has been named president of the Shubert Organization, the biggest theater owner on Broadway with 17 of the 41 theaters.

Daniel had been working as chief strategy officer at Shubert since 2023, after spending 14 years as co-chief executive officer of Broadway Across America, a major presenter of touring Broadway shows in North America. He will continue to report to Robert E. Wankel, chairman and CEO of The Shubert Organization.

Jeffs background, both at Shubert and prior to joining our company, make him extremely well suited for this role, Wankel said. For the past two years at Shubert, Jeff has been working on strategic initiatives as he familiarizes himself with our company. Daniels appointment to the role comes amid retirement rumors for Wankel, who has been with the Shubert Organization for five decades and leading it since 2008, when he was named president and co-CEO alongside Philip J. Smith. Wankel was named sole chairman and CEO of the Shubert Organization in July 2020, following Smiths retirement. At that time, Wankel was also named chairman of the Shubert Foundation, the nonprofit grant-giving company that owns the Shubert Organization.

A spokesperson for the Shubert Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wankels retirement plans.

Daniel has also been an active member of the Broadway League, where he chairs the government relations committee for the trade organization of producers, theater owners and general managers.

Jeff was a driving force in securing government funding for Broadways post-pandemic revitalization. Having him by my side will ensure Shuberts strength and legacy for years to come. We congratulate him on this well-deserved appointment, Wankel said in the press release.

Before his role at Broadway Across America, Daniel negotiated the sale of the Theater Management Group to Clear Channel Entertainment and became chief operating officer of entertainment properties.

Im honored to serve this American institution, and I am committed to the continued success and stability of both Shubert and the greater theatre industry. Shubert holds a special place in my heart, as it does for millions of theatregoers, and I am proud to work alongside Bob, with Shuberts talented leadership team and our impressive colleagues throughout the company, Daniel said.
