Rahm Emanuel, who last served as ambassador to Japan in the Biden administration, has found a media gig at CNN.
The veteran political figure will join the cable news outlet as senior political and global affairs commentator, the network said on Thursday. Emanuel, who grew his national stature as White House chief of staff to President Obama, served as mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019.
The hire adds another staunch Democrat voice on global affairs to a pundit roster that is retooling in the second Trump administration. The official, the brother of Endeavor mogul Ari Emanuel, stepped down from the ambassadorship on January 14 a week ahead of the presidential transition.
Emanuel has already been appearing on CNNs programming recently, including on State of the Union with Dana Bash after wrapping his diplomatic role in Tokyo.
In late January, the network shook up its daytime schedule, with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown moving to the 10 a.m. time slot to hostThe Situation Room as Jim Acosta exited the network. Meanwhile, Jake Tappers The Lead landed at the 5-7 p.m. spot while Audie Cornish was added toCNN This Morningat 6 a.m. and Rahel Solomon was named host of5 Thingsat 5 a.m.
More to come.
