‘Asteroid City,’ ‘Black Mirror’ VFX Outfit Jellyfish Pictures Suspends Operations, Seeks Sale-April 2024
Apr 24, 2025 9:32 PM

UK VFX group Jellyfish Pictures, which has credits on such projects as Wes Andersons Asteroid City and The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the upcoming series of Black Mirror, has announced it has suspended all operations and is currently exploring all options for sale and investment.

The studio, first launched in 2001, said in a statement it has taken legal steps to protect the position of the business while we strive to find a way forward.

The shuttering of Jellyfish follows last months news of the shuttering of Technicolor Creative Studios UK, the British division of the storied Hollywood company, which laid off its 400 U.K. staff and put its assets up for sale.

Like so many other companies operating across the VFX, animation and wider creative industries, weve been battling hard in the face of strong headwinds over the past twelve months, Jellyfish said in a statement. The long-tail impact of Covid, coupled with rising costs and the fall-out from the writer and actor strikes, have had a profound effect on our business.

Jellyfish made the announcement after news broke Tuesday that the company was closing its India division, where it has a production studio. As late as last June the company was still expanding, launching an outpost in Canada alongside its British and Indian operations.
