‘Adolescence’ Director Philip Barantini’s It’s All Made Up Productions Sells Minority Stake to Avalon-April 2024

Philip Barantini, the director of Netflix hit drama Adolescence and the 2019 film Boiling Point, and his long-time collaborator and co-executive producer Samantha Beddoe have sold a minority stake in their production company Its All Made Up Productions to U.K. talent management, TV production and live promotion giant Avalon (Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Catastrophe).

The partnership, which began discussions last year, sees this emerging indie align with the U.K.s largest independent production company and a premier global talent management business committed to supporting distinctive creative talent, the companies said. Financial details werent disclosed.

With an office in London and plans to open an office in their home city of Liverpool, co-founders Barantini and Beddoe have a slate of productions in development with major networks, studios and streaming platforms in the U.K. and U.S. The slate will focus on TV drama, film and documentaries, with Barantini and Beddoe committed to championing lesser-known and underrepresented voices and stories, Avalon said.

Barantini began his film and TV career acting in such dramas as Band of Brothers and Chernobyl, and such films as Ned Kelly. He then moved behind the camera to direct the movie Boiling Point and such TV series as The Responder (BBC), Boiling Point (BBC), andMalpractice (ITV), as well as Netflix film Accused.

Beddoe began her career in production finance, controlling and running production budgets forDisney, Lucasfilm, FX Networks and the BBC, among others. She executive produced the Boiling Point film and co-produced Accused with Barantini for Netflix. Additional credits for her include financial controller roles on Whats Love Got to Do With It, Atlanta, and The Acolyte.
