Chicago police are seeking the community’s help after a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot outside a Chicago public high school Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, who was a CPS student, was shot on a sidewalk near Michele Clark Magnet High School in the 5100 block of West Harrison, police said.
“If anybody has any information — big, small, anything at all — please contact the Chicago Police Department and let us know what you know,” said CPD Commander Andre Parham during a press conference Tuesday. “We all have our hearts broken by what happened. It’s a terrible tragedy.”
Police said the boy was standing outside at around 3:15 p.m. when he was shot multiple times. He was rushed to Stroger Hospital and was initially reported in critical condition, but he later died of his injuries. No one is currently in custody in connection with the shooting.
Jadine Chou, Chicago Public Schools’ chief of safety and security, said the district will have additional safety around the school beginning Wednesday, and will provide crisis support and grief counseling to students and faculty.
“It’s not easy, it’s something we hope we never have to deal with, but we are here,” she said Tuesday evening.
